Mathematics has a great role in promoting the development of art. Looking at the history of mathematics, mathematics has the greatest influence on the art of painting, especially in promoting the development of the expression form of painting cubism. We know that art is the most direct manifestation of changes in philosophical thinking and artists’ reflections on the changing environment. Although mathematics does not have a key impact on all cultural movements, it acts as the only and most important role (Cooper, 2019).

This is a piece of 3D print art from Rirkrit Tiravanija, this is a great example of how math had influenced art and science. The field of painting art is particularly prominent. Artists have begun to use the language and ideas of mathematics to permeate their colorful artistic life. In the first two decades of the 20th century, both oil paintings and engravings naturally expressed artistic images of two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces (Hammond,2021). During the Italian Renaissance, perspective allowed painting to more realistically represent objects in three-dimensional space on the surface of two-dimensional space, thus broadening the language of painting, and artists quickly learned this method. Later, in order to achieve visual and aesthetic effects, they consciously broke this rule, so terms such as cubism, surrealism, and futurism became popular, which all came from the concepts of new geometry in mathematics, such as non-Euclidean geometry, multi-dimensional space, especially four-dimensional space. Then involved in today’s 3D printing, which required artists to build the model on computer software, and they must obtain strong mathematic skills.

In general, at the beginning of the 20th century, New Geometry had a great influence on painting. Einstein published his special relativity in 1905 and his general relativity in 1916 (Trilman, 2022). By the end of the 1920s, the four-dimensional space he proposed received more and more attention. The idea of the fourth dimension as the dimension of space is almost completely replaced by the fourth dimension as the dimension of time. Therefore, time and movement become the focus of attention of the artists.
